At A Loss For Words

Hi there bloggers, its Saturday and therefore time for another Drunken Stampers Challenge.  This weeks challenge is themed "At A Loss For Words" which means no sentiment, no text.  I thought this was going to be rather easy this week, but it turns out it was a lot harder for me to restrain myself from using text or sentiments.  I often use text in my backgrounds or in creating papers and usually always include sentiments especially when trying to combine challenges...but, it was not altogether impossible.  

Over the past several weeks there is one particular blogger that I follow who always creates the most beautiful work, what has become somewhat of a trademark are her little bookmarks which are super duper cute.  Who is this blogger you might say...well you have probably encountered her from time to time as her work is everywhere but the little lady is Emma Chatburn from The Two Pink Ladies.  To make these little cuties, Emma uses the tutorial posted by Splitcoast Stampers Beate Johns, you can view the tutorial here.  What makes Emma's bookmarks so special is the way she decorates them!!!  (you can see plenty of examples by visiting her blog,) I am sure you will agree that they are very cute!!  As a result I have been inspired to make one of these corner bookmarks for a number of weeks now, so this week, I did for this challenge.  

In making this little bookmark, I followed the tutorial (see link above) and covered the little bookmark, once made, with cardstock from DCWV's "The Endless Summer Matstack" (I love these stacks), the paper had a design of sky with white clouds. I sprayed it very sparingly with some Glimmermist in "Sunshine" which gave it a little yellow colour and a lovely sheen. I also sandwiched some cream lace between the corner bookmark and cardstock before gluing them together. I sprayed a piece of corrugated cardboard (I tore from a box) with "Antique Brass" Glimmermist and once dry rubbed over the top with distress ink in "Tea Dye".  I then used distress crackle "rock candy" to give the cardboard some sheen and crackle appearance.  Using a Whiff of Joy die I cut a couple of little tufts of grass from some paper from DCWV's "Citrus Stack" and glued them in front of the corrugated cardboard "fence".  The image I have used is from "The Greeting Farm" her name is "Summer" and she is part of the "Roll Call" set.  I coloured her using copics E50,E51,E53,E43,W5,E31,E33,E35,E37,E47,YG00,YG02,YG06,RV000,R20,R22,BG10,B02,Y11,Y06 and Y08.  The banner is made using a Whiff of Joy die and a number of scrap pieces of paper from my stash attached to a piece of cotton twine.  I then used some Kindyglitz "crystalina" to add glitter accents to the whole project (gotta love that glitter).

The Greeting Farm: Mystery Monday

Saturday Sketch at TGF!!

Hi there bloggers, once again it is time for Saturday Sketch at The Greeting Farm's Club Anya Challenge Blog and I have finally had a chance to complete a card for this challenge.  I thought I would use a different image this time and have therefore gone for one of the Creepy Cake digi's.  

For this card I have used "Royal Pain - Digi" from The Greeting Farm.  I have stamped music notes (from Kaisercraft) using "Memento - Tuxedo Black" ink on a pearlised white cardstock.  The paper is from "The Glitter Stack" by DCWV.  I dry embossed a scrap piece of the white pearlised cardstock using a cuttlebug embossing folder (name unknown).  Once embossed, I rubbed "colour box" pigment ink in silver over the raised areas and added kindy glitz accents in crystalina and antique silver.  I coloured my image using copic markers: E50, E51, E53, R02, W1, W3, W5, W7, R20, R27, R29 and C1.  I hope you like it.  I have a couple more posts coming over the next few days, so hopefully you will keep an eye on what I have coming.  Until then, happy scrapping/stamping.

Its Preview Time Again

Hi there bloggers, well its preview time again at Tickled Pink Stamps so if you are not familiar with these stamps or you have not yet checked out their latest release you had better pop on over for the best eye candy possible. Another fabulous feature of these stamps is that The Tickled Pink stamp range (Lil Lolita's, Lil Lads, Cherrie & Lil Pets) are available both in digital and rubber formats, so all manner of crafter's are covered.

Kellie Winnell, owner and card maker extraordinaire, heads up an amazing design team and I can tell you their samples never disappoint so be sure to check them out.  Keep a look out for my absolute favourite Lil Fairy Kira.  Among the release there is also a pirate, a very foxy fox and a cute as a button wombat!  I will definitely be placing my order come release day (have yet to find out when that is, but my guess is perhaps Monday).

Ice Cream for Breakfast

Hi bloggers, today is another day for a Drunken Stampers Challenge.  This week's challenge is themed "Ice Cream for Breakfast".  "Strange" you may think..and believe me I thought so too until this week.  I am not sure whether everyone around the globe is aware of the heat wave we are currently experiencing here in Australia and more particularly in the State of New South Wales.  While other states around us are trying to recover from major devastation as a result of hurricanes and flash flooding, New South Wales has just experienced its hottest week on record with temperatures of 40 degrees plus!!  Needless to say....ice cream for breakfast is not as far fetched as it may seem in this little corner of the globe this week and in fact is proving to be somewhat a godsend.  There is currently not one meal which does not contain either ice cream of some other icy treat and in fact it does happen to be one of my daughters favorites (although I had never quite given it that much thought) and that is good old pancakes or waffles with ice cream and maple syrup!.   So....not that far fetched is it!

That said, its time for my card....

I'm A Guest Designer At The Stamping Bazaar!!

Hi there bloggers, guess what?  Well I am a guest designer at The Stamping Bazaar this week, yipeee and what fun I've had.   I must say it was a honor to be asked to make a special guest appearance and to work with such a cute image (thanks Marina).  Seeing as it is coming close to Valentine's Day I thought that I would make a cute little sweeties box for that special someone (in this case its my daughter Lily!) and I could not resist using the "Marvin with Candy Apple" image available here.  Isn't he just adorable!!

To make this box I just used a chocolate box (now empty, hehe) that I had received for Christmas and cut a circle out of the top of the box, as I wanted to be able to provide a little sneak peek of the goodies inside.  I then got two larger pieces of chipboard and drew a heart design on the first before cutting it our and tracing it onto the second piece.  I placed the box lid on the underside of one of the hearts and once I was happy with the position I traced the circle for where the hole needed to be cut out and cut it out using a stanley knife.  Before adhering the box lid to the chipboard I made sure that I cut a piece of acetate or the like (I like using presentation folder covers that you can get from a stationers) and positioned it over the hole.  I covered the whole box using various minds eye papers as well as cutting out hearts and a smaller heart out of chipboard to be the base of my image.  

I coloured Marvin using copics ciao markers W1,W3,W5,W7, R22, E31,E33,E35,YG02 & G06.  I mounted him on the chipboard heart after covering it (I also made a detailed thatched boarder around the heart using a white "uniball" gel pen) with 3D tape adhesive.  It then went to town decorating the box with any little embellishment I could find, including a rub on in the centre of the see through plastic peep hole.  For more ideas and inspiration make sure that you check out The Stamping Bazaar's blog.  Also be sure to join them every Friday for a new and fun challenge for which you stand to win some digi's of your choice.

"Missed It By That Much!"

Hi there bloggers, I am back once again with another challenge entry.  This time for two challenges. The first is for The Greeting Farm's CHA relay which required us to complete a blog hop and collect a series of elements from each designers blog which had to be incorporated into our design (you have until noon 2 Feb to enter if you are interested).  The second challenge was for Oh! Alice's "Hello/Goodbye" challenge.  Unfortunately silly me did not read the entire blog post and as a result I had not realised that their blog had moved and therefore the challenge was not the most current one! Uhh Duhh!  As a result I have missed out.  But it was fun making this tag (my first) anyway.  I have been wanting to do a tag for some time now and thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so. So anyway here it is:

 

I really wanted it to be a whole mix of "Alice in Wonderland" elements which did not necessarily make sense.  The rabbit and small clock button were stamped onto shrink plastic, coloured and then heated of course.  I am really pleased with the result.  I think it looks fun. Anyway, feel free to leave any comments, suggestions or constructive criticism as they are always welcome.  I always like to hear others suggestions for how I can improve me work.  Till next time happy stamping/scrapping.

Its Saturday Sketch Time

Hi there bloggers.  I am back with another challenge entry, this time for The Greeting Farms Club Anya Saturday Sketch.  This  week we are attempting a sketch created by the very talented Jennifer Shults. I was going to combine this card with a "Golden Birthday" challenge set by Sarah Schwerin at Inkurable Stampers.  Unfortunately, I was not able to finalise the card in time but I did have fun experimenting with different embossing methods to achieve a very golden and glossy look and in the end thought it would be a perfect card to enter into the Southern Girls Challenge blog whose theme this week is "Dry Embossing".  So without further ado, here is my latest card.  

For this card, I started off by inking up a piece of white cardstock using distress ink "Antique Linen".  I then dry embossed the piece using "Rays" textured fade by Tim Holtz.  I then ran a clear embossing ink stamp pad over the raised areas of my piece and sprinkled it with a gold embossing powder before heat setting it.  Lastly I distressed the edges using "Walnut Stain".  I stamped my image (I used what I call Cheeky Angel from the Greeting Farm's Naughty or Nice set) on X-press it cardstock using Memento ink in "Rich Cocoa".  I coloured cheeky using copic ciao pens (see colours as listed below).  For the background paper I stamped the music notes on a white piece of cardstock using Kaisercrafts "Music Notes" clear acrylic stamp with the "Rich Cocoa" Memento Ink before once again inking using "Antique Linen" distress ink.  I then distressed the edge with "Worn Lipstick and Walnut Stain" and a distressing tool.  The same was applied to the paper within the frame behind the image.  I hope you like this card.

Its Another Mystery Monday

Hi there bloggers!  Its been a long day today....school starts back tomorrow after summer vacation here in OZ, so I have spent the day buying last minute school stuff, labeling items, covering some books etc.  Don't you just love it!  As a side note, it dawned on me that I have a little one going into year 2!  YEAR 2...I can't believe it...where does the time go?

Anyhow, it is now 2:30 am and I have been sitting here all evening watching movies "The Young Victoria (so beautiful) and White Chicks (so funny) whilst catching up on some cardmaking for upcoming challenges.  That being the case seeing that it is Monday tomorrow, I figured I would start with a Mystery Monday challenge at The Greeting Farm.  This week they are asking us to case a card made by Claudine.  This sketch was really easy to work with and was quick and fun to make. As usual this is my version of the sketch:

I recently watched a you tube tutorial by Suzanne J Dean on using copics to achieve the look of distress inks.  Since I love the look so much I thought I would try it out for this challenge.  I still think it needs some more work but its better than my last attempt. What do you think?  I think it may need to be darker around the edges. Here's a closer look:
